I follow the Leather tradition of only wearing a set of leathers you have earned.By this I mean that I wore my boots once my military service was considered, I wore my leather vest when gifted that by my House, I will wear a leather cover when/if my peers see fit to honor me in that way. I also own leathers not gifted to me but that fit in with what I have earned(ie shirts, vests, harnesses, boots.) This does not mean I believe everyone has to follow this tradition but my Leather House does and it's something that resonates with me. Community is a big part of my Leather journey and by waiting until I am gifted a piece of leather from my community, I am holding space for and respecting my peers opinions of me. I am allowing them the space to honor me and my spot amongst them. I encourage you to think about whether this practice makes sense for you in your Leather journey.

Earned Boots:

These boots were issued to me in 2017 when I went through bootcamp and have served me since. I keep every scratch, knick, and "boy toe" mark as a reminder of where I have been and how hard I've worked to get where I am. I'll never get a perfect mirrorshine on these boots but I will always have the memories. I handmade the leather flag charm that is on the laces. I gifted similar charms to my leather family.

Earned Vest:

This vest was handmade by my friend and Head of House for CdlU, TheDaddyUnicorn, and gifted to me by my CdlU family in June of 2025. The interior is lined with hunter green for my favorite color and was blindly fitted perfectly to my body. This bar-style vest is adorned with pins and patches gifted to me by my leather family as well as our House patch. You can spot SouthEast LeatherFest's Bootblack Academy Graduate, Bootblack pride flag, and SouthEast LeatherFest(SELF) patches on the back of my vest. SELF was the first Leather conference I attended and where I first felt like a Bootblack. On the front of my vest I have pins for the Science of BDSM, SELF 24/25, my pronouns, chainmail pansexual and trans pride flags, a rainbow pride flag from the VA, a Decolonize The Phillippines pin, and some silly pins from my leather family. The patches are silly patches that represent me perfectly.

Denim Vest:

This vest gets it's history from vests in the punk rock scene. All of the pins and patches on this vest represent my journey with myself and finding who I truly am. I have my pronouns, service side, Leather life, and sexual orientation represented. The misgender fee is a public flogging.

The Legend of Cowboy Honey

Cowboy (they/he) is a proud pansexual transmasc Filipino switch. They joined the kink community in 2023 by attending a panel of Leatherfolx speaking on the lifestyle and was immediately drawn into Leather. Since then, Cowboy has taken on a mentorship in Leather and one in rope, as well as continuing to learn and grow in other areas. His interests in play include leather care/bootblacking, rope, wax, service, impact, and needles. Their other interests are in community mutual aid, advocacy, and the preservation of Leather history. They work hard to host Trans Tuesday munches through the Non-Cis Kinkster Coalition of NEFL and quarterly bootblacking round tables through the local Leather Locker. He also serves as House Historian for his Leather House, Casa de la Unicorn. Cowboy earned his boots through his military service and was vested by his family in June of 2025. He flags grey, grey with black, tan, or hunter green on either side and rust on the left.
